Back to Top Another Blue Moon

A single wisp of wool seems to be blown
From a blanket of blue out on the line
Caught in a tangle of innocence
Beneath the aging pines

I hear your whispered words seem to be spoken
From a blanket of blue inside your mind
Now I'm dancing, dancing a temperamental tango
Inside this heart of mine

Sometimes in silence I feel outspoken
differentials in an age of attitude
In between two worlds, under the influence
Of waiting for another blue moon

A single wisp of wood seems to be safe
Beneath a blanket of blue violet flame
Lost in angles of swift temperature rising up
But still no fire to blame

Individuals can feel out numbered
Differentials in an age of attitude
In a tight squeeze it’s undeniably true
I'm Waiting for another blue moon

A single whim of mine took me by surprise
Beneath a blanket of blue with you
Now I’m dancing, dancing a sentimental tango
Inside this heart so true.

Oh yes I'm dancing inside a whispering wind
Under a blanket of blue
Rocking a cradle of tenderness
Inside this heart so true.

Sometimes in silence I feel outspoken
Differentials in an age of attitude
In between two worlds, under the influence
Of waiting for another blue moon

Ballad of Pedro

I knew a man once who had no arms
He had beautiful legs though articulate feet
Upon which he was standing tall whenever we'd meet
He'd have one leg in the air and charcoal in his toes
He painted beautiful pictures with the help of his nose

Although this man he was incomplete
He had beautiful legs though he danced on his toes
Spinning circles in one place a smile upon his face
And though no arms hung by his side
He had a meditative stride
He painted beautiful pictures with people standing by

And they were watching and wondering "Madre, tu seas real?"
They were watching and wondering "How could this be so?"

I knew a man who had no arms
Because when he was just a boy, he found a baby bird
Who was broken so he took it up without a spoken word
He held it one arm to his chest, the other climbing high
He held this beautiful creature beneath the open sky

And then the rain came, it fell thundering "Madre, tu seas real?"
And then the rain came and then the thundering "How can this be so?"

Because when he was just a boy
He held the bird out to the nest, began a life-enduring test
He laid his arms upon electric wire and there began a spark of fire
It burned down in his sole, but the boy could not let go
He held this beautiful creature beneath the open sky

And then the rain came they fell tumbling not one word was said
And then the rain came they fell tumbling, the bird lay beneath the boy's head

But then this boy who laid down his arms
Lay with a smile upon his face, a meditative sort of grace
It was the thought of life restored to him that sparked a burning fire within
He felt it in his heart, this for him was a new start
It was a beautiful moment beneath the open sky.

And they were watching and wondering, "Madre, tu seas real?"
And they were watching and wondering "How could this be that the boy has not died
But is free?"

I knew a man once who had no arms
He had beautiful legs though, articulate feet
Upon which he was standing tall whenever we'd meet.
He'd have one leg in the air and charcoal in his toes
He painted beautiful pictures with the help of his nose
He'd have a smile upon his face, a meditative sort of grace
It was the thought of life restored to him that sparked a burning fire within
He felt it in his heart this could be a way to start to paint some beautiful pictures
He painted beautiful pictures

Barnyard Blues

Good morning, I want to sing it to you
Good morning good morning tell me how do you do
"When the roosters crow" it's been sung before
"The birdies all pippin'" it's been sung even more
I want to practice these words and sing them to you
'Cause lately I've been waking in a real bad mood

Good morning how you doing today?
Good morning, good morning It's nice to see you this way
When the trumpet calls morning revery
Somewhere twilight's fading out across the sea
If I sing it to you, I want to sing it to them
I wish you well my friends

Your daytime is just another man's dream
Your sleeping safely another woman's fantasy
When the siren sounds and it's late at night
Somewhere someone's out there losing their life
If I sing it to you, I want to sing it to them
I wish you well my friends

Your daytime is just another man's dream
Your waking safely another woman's fantasy
When the siren sounds or the rooster crows
My guess is nobody knows if it's a wake up call or a lullaby
Either way we hear the babies cry

I want to practice these words and sing them to you
'Cause lately I've been waking with the barnyard blues
The animals are coming two by two
My guess is we are two

Your boundaries are just a state of mind
Your borders they won't last through time
Oh the roosters, donkeys, pigs, and geese
They all learn to live in peace
When nature calls I'll be on my way
Right now, I'm here to say
Good Morning, Good Evening
If I sing it to you, will you sing it to them?
I wish you well my friends
If I sing it to you, will you sing it to me?
Some day we'll all be free

Barometric Lullabye

Under my skin can't get enough
Into my heart you call my bluff
Penetrate the human issues
Lubricate the deeper tissues
Enter my soul and watch the rising current roll

Around the eddies of my dreams not spiraling down but watching from the edge
I left the blue print for a set design hanging on the ledge
No it's not a dream I swear but a moment in real time
It's a fate I fear for feeling flight, barometric pressure high
Barometric pressure high

Entering my circumstance before it was your will
And we dance around the next few years not wanting to be still
Movement a host for gladness, gladness a host for joy
Takin' it the way it is with my barometric pressure boy

Well I'm pretty good with circumstance, fairly good with pain
But I'm not so good with standing still I'd rather be insane
Love is a host for gladness, gladness a host for joy
Takin' it the way it is with my barometric pressure boy, barometric pressure joy

Under my skin can't get enough
Into my heart you call my bluff
Penetrate the human issues, lubricate the deeper tissues
Enter my soul and watch the rising current roll

Around the eddies of my dreams not spiraling down but watching from the edge
It's a blue print for a set design hanging on the edge
No it's not a dream I swear but a moment in real time
It's a fate I fear for feeling flight, barometric pressure high
Barometric pressure high

Well I'm pretty good with circumstance, fairly good with pain
But I'm not so good with standing still I'd rather be insane
Movement is a host for gladness, gladness a host for joy
Takin it the way it is barometric pressure joy, barometric pressure joy

Beef Queen
Diahna called me up just the other day.
I was hooked before I realized she was takin' a survey.
She said "don't hang up, would you stay on the line?
This will only take one minute of your time".
Well I was doing the dishes; I was sweepin' the floor,
Diahna caught me home I was doing the chores,
Oh for better or for worse I had other things to do,
But I said "okay Diahna I'll stay and talk to you".

Diahna… she was a telemarketeer,
She used her job phoning people to spread her good cheer
She said "I'm from Indiana, how's the weather out there"?
And when she asked how I was feeling I could tell she really cared.

Diahna had some questions she still had a job to do
But she said "don't you worry honey you know we're almost through".
But then she caught me off guard when she asked me what I like to eat,
When I was driving on the through-way or walking in the street,
And my hunger was fast and I hadn't brought a thing,
Would I prefer the golden arches or a jaunt to Burger King?
And do I like a good deal? She had a coupon two for one.
And I said "okay Diahna, now we're having fun".

Well I started to giggle, I started to laugh, I said
"You're up the wrong tree; you're down the wrong path.
I'm a strict vegetarian, don't eat a cow nor calf
I'd rather stop and watch them grazing in the tall green grass".

She said "that's OK honey you can help me anyway,
I get paid for every form I fill, let's finish up this survey.
Don't you sometimes stop for chicken, fish or salted french-fries?
Or when you need to pee or need some gas or need to ditch some spies"?
I said "you'd better click on other, I'm neither yes nor no,
I always bring a snack along when I'll be on the go.
I'd rather exit the highway and drive that extra mile
to reach a small convenience store and see a mom and pop smile".

Well she started to giggle she started to laugh she said
"I'll have to call my manager I'll have to call my staff
We've met a whole lot of people some hang up and some refuse
But we've never met someone like you who'll stay and sing the blues"

Well I'm driving back from Boston I've got Diahna on my mind
She e-mailed me her photo her face is soft and kind
And every 30 miles or so the golden arches re-appear
And suddenly my blinker's on and off the ramp I veer
And I find myself inside a million burgers sold each day
I walk up to the counter she says "how are you today"?
Well her name tag says Diahna you know I'm on a streak
This one's from Massachusetts she's the beef queen of the week

She was selling her cattle she was selling her steer
But when she asked how I was feeling I could tell she really cared
So I ordered up double I'll keep the lettuce hold the beef
I'm not threatened by the Ketchup but still I don't eat red meat.

Diahna she was a telemarketeer she was rich with emotion but she had this questionnaire
She said "I'm from Indiana how's the weather out there"?
But when she asked how I was feeling I could tell she really cared.

Blue Iris

Like a blue Iris flower, he would open his petals each morning
And close them again at night
Until one morning as its petals were reaching out for sunlight
They wilted one by one

The clouds disappeared with his hopes and his fears nature's contemplations
But the very next day a whole new bouquet was blowing seed to the wind

From the blue iris of his eyes he saw the future he saw lies
He saw human confrontation
Oh he didn't mean to walk away, he prayed to the lord that he could stay
This his consolation

The clouds disappeared with his hopes all his fears nature's conversations
But the very next day a whole new bouquet was blowing seed to the wind

Time did pass frost to the grass
The child Iris learned to last the dark blue eye of the storm
Oh the wind did howl a warning blow but the child is coy and yet to know
That meaning has no form

Oh the clouds disappeared not her hopes but her fears nature's contradictions
But the very next day a whole new bouquet was blowing seed to the wind

Blues in A

I shouldn't tell you what I'm thinking
You wouldn't really want to know
I'm gonna have to find myself a way around it
Write a quick note before I go
Take a walk, maybe later we can talk
Right now I'm skipping out of the door
It was something that you said
Your voice is running 'round in my head, you said

I shouldn't tell them what I'm feeling
You said they really don't need to know
I'm gonna have to tie a string to remember
Around my big toe
Take a look, I'm just an open book,
Right now I'm slipping out of control,
Here I am up on stage exposing my emotional rage
I'm feeling low I'm feeling lonely
I don't know what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna have to find myself a way around it
Break down and tell you I love you
Take a chance, maybe ask you dance
And then I'm gonna hold you like I never held you before
Skip a heart, skip a beat, skip a stone, skip a generation
I'm gonna call you my own

Skip a heart skip a beat skip a stone skip a generation
Skip a heart skip a beat skip it all just remember what I told you
Recessive genes have a memory of their own

Cake Rising

You can be a builder, build a house a pink hotel
You can build a bridge watching people come and go
You can build a fire, you can burn that bridge
You can climb a mountain looking back down from up on the ridge

You can build a layer cake, cut it with a knife
You can build a song, you can build a life

You can be a builder, build a freeway build a fence
You can build a racetrack let the race commence
You can hear a whistle, Ref says you’re out of line
You can flip a switch, change your own mind

You can build a union an army corps of drum and fife
You can build a song, you can build a life

If you were a builder you could build with stone or brick
Build a dream without a stick
You could count some sheep just to get inside that dream
Build a damn don’t let it wash down the drain

You can hear your song, playing in the radio
You can just breathe and let yourself go

Spread some icing, spread it thick and sweet
Spread your table, spread some inner peace
Count your blessings; spread a blanket of inner joy
Spread your wings into a man from a boy

You can build a seven layer cake let it cool and cut it with a knife
You can build a song, you can build a life
You can build a future, a peaceful fantasy
You can just breathe, and let yourself be

Canyons

Canyons are calling me back to the winter
When ice made the sound clear as snow in the dark
Clear as a lark on a summer's day
Clear as I tell you that I wanted to stay
But I packed my bags to go
Icy footsteps in the snow months till their making
Spring fields their taking old man time fakes a dance
Sure as a 10 cent charade, clear as a glass parade on fire
Take a look, take a second look.

Canyons are calling back-tracking echoes
Over the mountain is a handsome lone gull
Clear as a lull on a summer's eve
Clear as I tell you that I wanted to leave
But the winter kept me in, icy footholds in the wind not too inviting
Way too exciting for this old timer
Sure as a dime for a dance canyons are calling me
Take a chance, take a second chance

And I don't know which way to go
If I should come or if I should go but life goes on, life goes on
I don't know which way to go
If I should come or if I should go but life goes on, life goes on

Canyon's cacophony back through the ages
Over the mountains clear down to the sea
Questions to be, questions not to be
Clearly the answer's somewhere deep inside of me
So I carefully unfold. I put my things away for life to beholden
These moments are golden and old man time steps up a jig
Clear as a fern head unraveling clear as a hobo keeps traveling on
for a time, for a second time

And I don't know which way to go
If I should come or if I should go but life goes on, life goes on
And I don't know which way to go
If I should come or if I should go but life goes on, life goes on

And now I'm dancing in your arms thinking back to that Winter
When ice made the snow clear as snow in the dark
Clear as a lark on a Summer day
Clear as I tell you I want to stay Oh yea, I want to stay.

Clone Me

Come on doctor come on and clone me quick
I'm feeling like this whole damn world's about to make me sick
Come on and clone me, I'm feeling so lonely I could cry

But I thought for a minute you could clone me instead
You could make me up a double or have I been misled
You could fly me to the moon and I'd still be here on earth
Live out another century, live life for all it's worth
Come on and clone me I'm feeling so lonely, I could cry

If you choose me as your subject, I promise to live a good life
And if you choose my husband too I promise to be a good wife
I can't rely on reincarnation, It's never been proven clear
Come on doctor, my time is coming near
Come on and clone me, I'm feeling so lonely

But I thought I could be her mother and her sister too
I would feed her tea and oranges when she's feeling blue
I would teach her to be patient I would teach her to be kind
I'd teach her to not let this whole damn world make her lose her mind
Come on and clone me I'm feeling so lonely

We'd have different memories I guess I know it's true
She would see the world at large like I never knew
She would see us reach consensus
She would see us live in peace
Come on you handsome doctor, don't you be a tease
Come on and clone me, I'm feeling so lonely, I want to give it a try
Come on and clone me, I'm feeling so lonely, I want to give it a try

Conquest

Don't conquer the world, don't conquer the universe
Conquer the enemy of you and me destruction perverse

Don't conquer the countries don't conquer the people there
But conquer the enemy of you and me the biggest one is fear

Can't overlook the toxins, can't overlook the genocide
Can't overlook the undertaker overtake the vanity of pride

Bury deception and don't take it back
Reach out and climb up Jacob's ladder but don't you be like Jack

Don't steal gold for beans don't steal oil for blood
But you better still have the sense and the reason to know what I mean

Ignite the fire then put out the flames
You're gonna see by the light only ashes and dust will remain

Bury misfortune, bury it deep
Don't you go and be like that old giant
He fell asleep

Conquer the conquest, corruption and shame
Overcome the history of our world our times put rest the blame

Think peace as a newborn think peace as your own
Nurture the energy of you and me
Give peace a home give peace a home

Ignite the spirit to put out the flames
Overcome the history of our world our time
Put rest the blame, give peace a home

Doggone Love

For sixteen years more or less my dog's been my very best
Friend in the world I told her so
I told her when it's time for leaving
Feel free to go

My dog's Sassy, my dog's sweet,
My dog was named for she has very big feet
But now my dog's getting skinny, my dog's getting old
I told her when it's time for leaving
Feel free to go

Lassie, Toto, Rin Tin Tin,
They won the heart of every true blooded American
Girl and boy, pure cinematic joy
Oh my dog she weren't no hero but I still love her so

For sixteen years give or take
My dog could always make me happy when I was feeling low
My dog she weren't no hero but I still love her so
Even so I told her when it's time for leaving
You feel free to go

Edge of Time

Oh we are standing on the edge of time
Time can move a mountain, peace can bring a mountain home
And in the silence on the edge of time
Love can move a mountain, peace can bring a mountain home

We have been standing all life long like a mountain deep in song
Standing on the edge of time
Time can listen, silence answers heart's desire
Silence answers hearts divine

And in the silence on the darkest night
Light can be the answer, peace can bring the answer home
And in the shadows in the morning light
Grace can be the answer, peace can bring the answer home

We have been shifting all life long like a mountain deep in song
Drifting through the edge of time
Grace can listen, silence answers heart's desire
Silence answers hearts divine
Silence answers hearts' desire, silence answers hearts' divine

Evolution

Hey folks I've been doing my research
It doesn't matter what the framed situation
Polarization, vast participation
Needing re-evaluation, revelation, peaceful resolution, revolution

Hey folks I've been doing my research
It doesn't matter what the subject of the Nation
We got snakes and saints, and Vatican restraints
Needing re-evaluation, reformation, revelation, peaceful revolution

Innovation, transformation, change, reform civilization
Equity, diplomacy, guided peace through realization
Honesty, imagination, declaration- independence, respectability
Serendipity, synchronicity in the city

I've been doing my homework and the numbers, they don't add up
Doing the job of peace negotiations with bombs in the back of the truck
Put down your middle finger and spread your palms out wide
Open your eyes and look around, and build a bridge to the other side
With a peaceful resolution, peaceful revolution

Hey Folks I've been doing my research
I think it matters and you matter too
And if it and me and you could all agree
We really need a reformation, revelation, evolution
Peaceful Revolution

Fat on File

That was that and this is this
Time's moving on prospectively from the middle of a riddle
Unable to solve

My thoughts are okay but your's
Are considerably more significant to you
Understandably so, inexorable rights like a valve with no aperture
Or solution for me

Time is change and change is timing
Flawed by a river of insolence, buoys mark anger
And sorrow's intensities offer no lifeline for war

Disruptions in times of peace
On illegitimate by-ways bygones not gone
There's more on their way with protocol and types running parallel
Purposes running a muck

My story line is flawed but it does exist
Just like yours, it was born for a reason
To cross that purpose

That was that and this is this
Ya gotta stay present to know how to exist
Just last century I thought it was this, but I was wrong

That wasn't that but that's not all
"That's all folks" was a fallacy stuttered by a porky little pig
In a cartoon aperture, with no morals after all

The fat's on file and I've been told
There's always more to unfold
From the middle of a riddle rhyming isn't necessary

Nor is war but that's not the point
I'd negotiate but that's not the point either
From the middle of a riddle unable to solve

My story line is flawed but it does exist
Just like yours, it was born for a reason
To cross that purpose

That was that and this is this
Ya gotta stay present to know how to exist
Just last century I thought it was this, but I was wrong

This is this but it's not that simple
There's more to this from the middle of a riddle
Comfortably unable to solve

Feels Like a Summer Breeze

Green is the color of the grass and trees
Green is the color of all the budding leaves
Green is caused by photosynthesis
But for now let's dance like princes and princesses

Ohhh how the wind blows
Ohhh blowing green grass through your toes
Ohhh now it's up to your knees
Do do do do do doo. Green feels like a summer breeze

Green is a color not with envy but with pride
Green makes you feel the love you have inside
A silk worm spins its silk and then it's metamorphosis
Do do do do do do doo for emphasis

Ohhh how the wind blows
Ohhh blowing green grass through your toes
Ohhh now it's up to your knees
Do do do do do doo. Green feels like a summer breeze

Industrial Signs

Industrial electric exit sign
Power pack emergency over my door tonight
Industrial electric exit power pack emergency
Generated over our door tonight

I wanted to go away, I was gone anyway but I decided to stay and find a way
If you want to get away industrial signs can lead you astray

Industrial tracks, industrial miles
Muffled by industrial trials (It'll take some)
Industrial size and strength to clean up all the lies at length
Muffled by industrial smiles

They won't just go away, you can go any way but emergency lights stay on all day
But if you have to get away, industrial signs can lead you astray

Industrialized with intimate ties: Stop pause industrial lies
Industrious times, industrial crimes: Stop pause industrial lies won't go away
You can go anyway but the logical thing's to stay and find a way
But if you have to get away industrial signs can lead you astray

Inside a deep well, no one can tell you can still see the light
Industrial electric exit power pack emergency generated over your door tonight

You can go away but industrial size mistakes can eat away
If you want to get away I'll still be here if you decide to stay
Won't lead you astray. I wanted to get away, not going anywhere

It Moves Me

It moves me, my life moves me
It pulls me here and there and everywhere my life moves me.
You move me too, It's all the things that you do
You push and pull me through, I couldn't live without you babe

You take a push, a pull, you equal 'em out,
You get a balance in the middle, I can't live without.
You're like a line on the shore,
You got me seeing double, but don't you worry baby
You know you're worth the trouble.

'Cause you move me, you know you move me
You pull me up when I'm down, I like you hanging around, you move me
It moves me too, my heart cries out to you
Come on and carry me through, I couldn't live without you babe

You take a push, a pull, you equal 'em out
You get a balance in the middle, I can't live without.
I got my head in the clouds, but my feet are on the ground
'Cause I got you and my friend gravity holdin' me down
You move me, It moves me

James

You walk in a room, there's so many women there
Some of them shy just like you, some of them willing
But not one is the right one for you. Not one is the right one for you

You have a story, I didn't know or care
Fifty-five years later, you walk in a room I meet you there

I sing you one song. I sing you another
Not one is right for you what I hear you say could I write for you
A song for you Brother

You have a story, a story so old
Man with a secret, just like others never told.I'm waiting
At the top of a secret just before you get to the bottom of it
You go down deep inside it want to know the truth behind your waiting

You come with your stories like so many people here
Breathless but forgiving (just like you) none you really mean to share
But the cracks in the gilded silence have a way of bringing you there

You're in South East Asia, destinations' just names
Tripping on the cracks in the system is that man inside James

He sings about love.He sings about justice head to head his words mean more
What you hear if you ask you've heard before, leaving him breathless

He has a story, his story is his song
Song is his secret and his secret is a long time waiting
At the top of a secret just before you get to the bottom of it
You go down deep inside it, want to know the truth behind his waiting

On a slow boat to China, destination's not clear
Digging through the cracks in the pavement takes more time
But it won't get you there

He has a story a story so old
Man with a secret just like others never told. I'm waiting
At the top of a secret just before you get to the bottom of it
You go down deep inside it want to know the truth behind his waiting

He has a story his story is his song
Song is his secret and his secret is a long time waiting
At the top of a secret just before you get to the bottom of it
You go down deep inside it want to know the truth behind his waiting

Jubilee

Oh I was lost in the moment, but the moment wasn't lost on me.
There was a story, it had a meaning, true as a meaning can be.

Time flows, time listens, surrendering the call.
Time flies—takes a fall.
Time stops, time travels, slipping through the cracks,
Standing still, never turning back.

There was a time, when words were spoken,
Defining moments with truth and dignity.
The sounds were pure, the sounds had meaning, true as a meaning can be.

Time marches, time lingers, it's bringing up the rear,
It's a twist of fate, a promise drawing near.
Time passes, time's fleeting, a promise yet to come.
Time heals—we can live as one.

And in the moments of inspiration, time suspends, reflecting jubilee.
It's all a feeling, an intuition, to think the way we thought life used to be.

Time for now, time forever, holding onto time that's lost.
Time lapses in a not so distant past.
Time keepers, counting measures, indifferent to all.
Time flies and then it takes a fall.
Lost in the moment, but the moment wasn't lost on me.

Louise

It's amazing - what a place can do for you, when you've been there or not
But you find when you get there, X marks the spot like a long lost friend
Waiting at the door

When you get to a place feeling, there's an aura you recognize
That you know so well
You can tell in a moment It's casting a potent spell on you
Like Dejavu haunting you

Ten thousand times whistling the lines through Louise' breeze
Tall paper trees shredding their leaves or what's left of them
Paper dolls and gems, Her skirt worn at the hem

She's been here before. Her presence is felt like a mist in a ghetto of innocence
Jaunting through landscape, haunted by fields now paved
And if she ever knew her lover's lyrics saved

Ten thousand moments passed by these rows tending gardens grow
Now in the snow, frozen black honey locusts are dressed up as birch
On a branch is perched, winds are calling from the church

She's been here before. This once her share of the fortune of lyric that whispers her laugh like an epitaph making whole what's half. Two paths crossing on a graph

Ten thousand times traced by the lines of a photograph
Filling in margins, memories seem to make room for show
Knowing that you know Louise
Finding I can't get away not really minding to stay
Intrinsically seeking, Louise

Love in a Pack

I just found out how so many love songs come about
Aspects and layers and prospects and prayers
Love in a mist love into the mystic waters
Aching and longing and hearts still belonging
Plus everybody should have one, a love song for everyone

I just found out how so many love songs came about
I just found out when my baby left me
Since she's gone away there's so much more I could say
I wrote her one love song; it was a dog gone, dog's life, too short long

Unpredictable, unrefined, that love describes the human kind
Another level, a different breed, a dog's love gives you all you need
Since she's gone away, I find myself with two lone strays
A mere replacement wouldn't do, for her lovin' I needed two

She is missed life goes on and still and yet another song
Life is sweet, a mystery that two love songs turn into three
Because it seems to me, there's so many people who need a melody
Everybody should have one, unconditional love for everyone.

Mass Infatuation

Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
My friends they go to the store and they buy it, bring it home and they try it
They use it a while, lose it a while, oh they may find it
But it always breaks down. They do it again

They go to the store, just to choose to buy more
Thinking it's their patriotic obligation; it's just a mass infatuation
With buying new toys, It's a capitalistic ploy
We got two birds in the bush, and before too long It'll all break down.

If you go to the store, just to choose to buy more
Thinking it's your patriotic obligation;just like the Bush administration
Vending peace in an oil can, It's a highly combustible plan
With two birds in the bush before too long it'll all break down

I must confess that I need a new dress
Oh I got this social obligation, just received my invitation
I guess I'll have to break down and go to the store
But you know it'll be the kind that sells stuff that's been used up before
Cause with two birds in the bush, you guessed I'm gonna go dressed second best

Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
If you go to the store, just to choose to buy more
The freedom to choose might be the freedom to lose, your freedom

I must address my state of duress
I was standing in line taking my time choosing
A woman came up you know we started schmoozing
We agreed on the merchandise, we agreed on the sales price
But when it came to real needle talking
I couldn't pin her, she started walking

Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
Peace loving consumers don't you love your stuff more than your freedom
If you go to the store, just to choose to buy more
The freedom to choose might be the freedom to lose, your freedom
Oh don't you do it uhhuh

Nothing

I've been lookin', Nothin' there to find
I've been lookin', but there ain't nothin' there to find
And she said to me "I can't believe that you would build your whole world 'round nothin'. Something's got to give, Something's gonna break. Make no mistake
There's gotta be somethin' up your sleeve, roundin' your corner, under your rug
I'm gonna call that thing love
Oh when something has no name, It's still the same something to gain
Nothing to loose
I'm gonna call that thing love. I'mgonna call that thing love

Paradigm
Paradigm

I found a Paul McCartney album in a bin on sale and dusty for just $5.95.
I left it there took home a low-lying samba, Lord I loved the Beatles
Wish John Lennon was still alive.
I walked around to club Helsinki, talked and listened 'til my spot just past eleven, I sang some covers.
I covered ground I covered up I covered John imagining no heaven.

He crossed the line he crossed to just the other side. He crossed the heavens in song hell took him for a ride. Imagine John in heaven it's not so hard to do. It's easier than seeing none another century gone and still the same one paradigm

I'm driving home I play a song that's new by an artist I never heard before. It took me all the way there. It was a lyric instrumental, with guitar voicing played in a different rhythm a whole new score. I felt the presence of imagining my voice filled up the empty space around me, I sang some lyrics. It all made sense it all made love not war it all made up for having no heaven.Gently weeping

I thought that Paul was cute but I left him there on my girlfriend's twin bed in the air while jumping to Twist and Shout,1965.
George was nice and I paid the price for 45's and I paid the price for friendship to Ringo's thumping. But it was John with his impassioned drive who always hooked and mesmerized the Ladies. He took me there. He took us for a ride the day he died, he took us for a loop, imagining no heaven.

A light goes off when I'm home in bed just before I fall into my own deep slumber. It left me there. It wasn't what John said or didn't say or what Mark's fury took away surrendering, deeply encumbering. The man who sold the firearms his name was Ono just like Yoko. It was a twist of fate. Without religion, no religious war without a hell we wouldn't need a heaven.

Mark David Chapman still walks the line locked up in his cell. While John's in heaven in song Mark David's locked in hell. Imagine
John in heaven it's not so hard to do.It's easier than seeing none another century gone and still the same one paradigm.Still the same one paradigm, and still the same one Paradigm.

Peter

It's late now I should be sleeping
But instead here I find myself thinking
Wondering if you're alive where you are living?

Something happened I can't remember but it triggered a thought
Of that day in the summer I was cold
You gave me your shirt I let the wind blow

I know I said thank you from the top of the hill
Crowning innocence tumbling down just like Jack and Jill
I spoke in a language obscured by a song
I said dankeshane. Do you remember my name?

I remember you
Peter pumpkin pie for you
Peter the piper picks for you
Empty shells of nursery rhymes
Empty phrases keep through time
And I remember taking bus rides home after school
And when JFK was shot and killed
Wheels spinning round and round
Rolling wheels spinning round and round

What do you do now?
What have you become?
I guess boys grow up too though I knew you at ten
Would you know me know?
Are we what we were then?

It's late now I should be sleeping
But instead here I find my self thinking
Wondering if you're alive where you are living?
Would you know me now are we what we were then?
Anyway I'm singing Dankeshane again
Cause I remember your name
I remember you Peter oh so well I remember you Peter

Piece of Green

Peace I learned to ask of thee Old River
I was just a girl wearing green and selling cookies door to door.
I found peace by the river; I want to go down
Take me down to the river, to go scouting around.

Mother, what's going on here?
Mother, river's high, river's low.
Mother, what's going on here?
There's blocks in the water, the river can't flow.

Peace I learned to ask of thee Old River
I was just a girl scouting out and selling innocence for shame.
I found peace by the river; but now the river's inflamed
Run off down the mountains trading beauty for pain.

Mother, what's going on here?
Mother; tell us to settle down.
Mother, what's going on here?
Give us peace by the river I want to go down.

Peace I learned to ask of thee Old River
I was just a girl wearing green not with envy but with pride.
I gathered strength from the mountains I gathered peace from the sea
Lead us to the water, cleansing disharmony.

Mother, What's going on here?
Mother, river's high river's low.
Mother, What's going on here?
Where is the balance? I thought you might know

Peace I learned to ask of thee O' river
I was just a girl scouting out
I found peace by the river, I found strength from the sea
Lead us to the water cleansing disharmony

Mother, what's going on here?
Mother; tell us to settle down.
Mother, what's going on here?
Give us peace by the river I want to go down
I want to go down I want to go down down I want to go down down down
To the river to go scouting around

Sand

Once there was a little girl who played by the sea
She built a castle made of sand
And there was once a little boy who played by the sea, right along beside of her
He built her castle walls for protection. But she said
"Boy why don't you go on over there, I don't need your help
I'd rather play here all alone, and do it by myself"
He said girl, "I was just trying to help you".But she said
"Boy I don't need your help, nothing can protect me
Look the tide is coming in, nothing can stop the sea
And nothing can stop the rain"

Then she just kicked up some sand in the air
And she started to run on off down the beach
He watched the wind blowing through her hair
He said that girl is out of my reach

Well some time passed, the seasons changed
Summer came again and again, oh yeah but nothing remains the same
Tides shift and winds shift and sands shift and children ask why
He saw her there, she was all alone
She stole a glance of him, and her heart gave out a dance
Moods shift and hearts soar and birds laugh and children ask why.She said
"Why'd you watch me run away, why didn't you follow me
I didn't really want to be alone, I was lonely as the sea".He said
"Woman I don't really understand."And she said
"Long ago when we were young, and castle walls were made of sand"
He just reached out and he touched her hand.

But still, she just kicked up some sand in the air
And she started to run on off down the beach
He ran behind her like the wind
Until that woman was just in his reach

Some time passed, the seasons changed
Summer came again and again, oh yeah but nothing remains the same

Tides shift and winds shift and sands shift and children ask why
Moods shift and hearts soar and birds laugh
Tides shift and winds shift and birds soar
Moods shift and hearts soar and birds laugh and children ask why…
"Can nothing stop the sea?Can nothing stop the rain?"
"Can nothing stop these human emotions I'm felling again and again?"
Then he just kicked up some sand in the air,
And he started to run on off down the beach he said
"What you need is some fun"and he said "Woman let's go try for the sun"

Moods shift and hearts soar and birds laugh
Tides shift and winds shift and birds soar
Moods shift and hearts soar and birds laugh and children ask why

Sequoia

I'd like to be like a mighty strong tree firmly in the soil
With my head up high and my limbs so wide
To the earth I would be loyal.
I would stand majestically two thousand years or more
and my name from the native tongue would come
They'd call me Sequoia.

And the roots go down down down
And the trunk so wide wide wide
And the the limbs so high high high
Wild life by my side, Wild life by my side

On the edge of Sierra Nevada in the Redwood forest I'd reside
Deep in the fertile earth our roots are nourished by the riverside
Mountain run off feeds the earth and the earth feeds all our friends
Keep the rivers running keep them clean keep the life
Keep the forests make amends

Shucking an Oyster

We go out walking, I listen to you talking and I wonder what sun you're under
I try to listen I know you want my kissin’ and I wonder What cloud I'm under

If the world is my oyster, I want to crack the shell
If my shell holds a pearl of wisdom, oh lord start ringing my bell

I try to listen to your sunny disposition and I wonder what spell you're under
I like to wander where storm clouds are out yonder and listen to the thunder

My shell is not my umbrella nor can I stand the rain (I can't stand it)
But the rain has waterproof fingers, stroking love through the pain

I like to feel the reconciliation rebounding out yonder could we grow fonder?
If we could overcome the total sum, then others too might ponder the world out yonder

If the world were an oyster, like a code I'd crack the shell
If a tree falls in the forest, I'd know the tree fell

A shucker shucks, a husker husks, at the end of the day the dusk eats dusk
And still I wonder where's the top when you're under?
It's not a kernel or a pearl and it's not stealing all the thunder coming up from down under

If clams are decidedly happy then oysters must be happy as well
If the sum of the whole, are the parts but they're broken
Where's wisdom? Where's my bell?
Where's my wisdom, where’s my bell? I hear the thunder.

Soul Reasons

Steam on the window a ring around the bathtub
Old iron piping stains down the drain
Like a smooth whiskey scotch going down
Straight up so near it lingers

Out in the hallway I trip across my family
Bubbles still crackling in my ears and still I see
His hand coming down her bare bottom up
The sound so near it lingers
Her fingers reaching out a bar of Ivory in her mouth

You can't wash it away these memories stay and stay

Back in my bedroom, I close the door behind me
That was before it came crashing in around me
Her fists flying down wood chips splintered up so high
They lingered hanging in the air

And the I slip in to sleep, feel the blankets up around me
Lessons in flight school hydraulic angels come to me
At first I fall down but they jack me up so high
I linger there and then I fly up through the air

It's a long way down my feet come safely to the ground
I can't recall the time of season
And I don't know the g-d-forsaken reason why

And then I slide down the banister kitchen scents transport me
Pancakes and coffee go wafting up the chimney
I head for the door he says "sit back down, eat more"
And so I linger, my fingers dipping in, some Aunt Jemima on my chin
You can't wash it away these memories stay and stay

And then I walk off to school yellow raincoat up around me
Bright red umbrella a gust of wind and suddenly
It lifts me so high I nearly touch the sky, and there I linger

It's a long way down my feet come safely to the ground
I can't recall the time of season
But I know if rhyme has reason so must I
Soul reasons never die, soul reasons never die

Spears

Lengths of wild asparagus in the yard
Putting with a pool stick, smoke from a cigar
Pool balls cracking wild, a hole in one
I got the wrong game but I know how it's done

Piles of wood and bales of hay, a man made in the shade
Pegs of steel wind in a dell reminds me of croquet
Balls cracking wild, some Bocce for style
A different approach gives us some peace for a while

Bags of fresh asparagus given all around
Nothing wasted nothing lost always something found
Earth worms though plenty, some years they seem scarce
Migration to another bed, I hear the competition's fierce

Nothing wasted nothing gained I like a good tie
Poolside bets are plenty politics a lie
Asparagus though pastoral seems misunderstood
Spears by any other name, up to no good

Other beds have nutrients I guess they always will
Asparagus though healthy, poisoned apples kill
Crackling on the phone line, they're cuttin' in
They got the wrong number but they think they know how to win

This year's crop was camouflaged and now has gone to seed
Asparagus is not a spear a peace pipe not smoke free
Call eight ball in the corner and scratch it out of range
There's always been a game where the rules always change

Techno Perfect

Just a few glitches in my daily routine life
There could be more
But I'm always expecting three or four
There's always something different
There's always something new
That's why I wasn't surprised when I fell in love with you

The cow jumped over the crescent moon
Over the sun nothing ever runs
'Cause everything's got a purpose here on this earth
There's always a reason a turning of season
Opportunity for creating new worth

So give me a wish on a star and make it come true
I'll sing a song, not one note or word goes wrong
If I get through without a glitch or two
I'd be techno perfect to the end
There wouldn't be reason to start all over again

So just a few glitches before I go
I'll sing a song 'cause I want each one of you to know
I'm only human But I'm gonna try to get it right
I want to be techno perfect for you baby here tonight
You know there's something about perfection
So I'm gonna try to get it right
But don't be surprised when you realize
I'm only human tonight dear, techno human tonight
I'm only human again for you tonight

This Side Up

I used to think there were too many thoughts to think more,
Too many folks to fend for, too many "no"s to end war.
I used to think too much of the time.
I used to wonder if I could think of something new, or if
I'd just use pomp and circumstance to stand, for which it stood.

I used to think there were too many songs to write more,
Too many rights to fight for, too many wrongs to die for.
I used to think too much of the time.
I used to wonder if there could be a point with no resolve,
It would be half as hard to circumvent and twice as hard to solve.

I read the paper It was dated on the 12th.It was September and falling leaves were
Mixed with falling wealth.I read the small print at the top.
I said "I can't believe it says 'this side up".
With our flag upon the page, I saw republic for which it stood come of age,
I saw Republic come of age.

I never thought it was too late to change our choices,
Too late to change our sources, too late to claim our voices.
I never thought a nation so consumed with growth,
Could politic so hard we'd find our leaders no longer under oath.

I put the paper in a window in the sun, The colors faded and
Condensation made them run. I read the small print at the top.
I can't believe it had to say 'this side up".
Our weary flag a centerfold,Republicized news was growing old.
I saw Republic come of age.

Then a great flood of searching for meaning for answers to lies so tragic. Great flood
of songs for heroes, for glory for habit.I used to think that we could change the world.
But if the folks back home had already thought the thinking I have good,
It would be half as hard to circumvent my point and twice as hard to be mis-understood

Federal Flag Code (public law 94 - 344): Joint Resolution, Section 4, I and j...The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever… It should not be embroidered on cushions or napkins, impressed on paper or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discarded.

To be misunderstood, to stand for which it stood, this side up

This Song

I know this song, this song's been sung before
With different words becomes a metaphor
And so I'd like to sing it again
In a different way
Words cannot speak the truth
If truth belongs to yesterday

This song was sung , about a man who drowned
This song was sung a woman lost her child
And so I'd like to sing it again
In a different way
This man was found, this woman's voice in song her child was saved

I know this song, this song's been sung before
In times of peace in times of raging war
And so I'd like to sing it again
In a different way
Folklore has passed, this story has no end
This story starts today.

Virtual Kindness

In the summer of just another number
I tossed my journals up and over the wall
Of a giant dumpster in Soho and then they were gone
What a site, it was south of Houston, alright great visual flight
Papers flying, more than mine, blowin’ in from China Town
Blending so well trying to catch the then yet-existent time

Dumpster madness; threw it all away
Construction debris in solid graffiti they haul it away
Reality; Harlem bells ringing and crying feet
Imbedded memory; no sadness, virtual harmony
Blackout the pain like a freight train

Writing on the wall virtually permanent, while
Inside tenement minds nothing ever seems what it aught to be
And a call for help is as constant as an African beat
Where virtual does not yet exist, almost nothing
Now you know it’s so easy you can enter a kiss
Write it on the wall pledging allegiance, virtual kindness

Dumpster madness; something better to say
With construction debris in solid graffiti they haul it away
Reality; Harlem bells ringing and crying feet
Imbedded memory; no sadness, virtual harmony
Blackout the pain like a freight train

Now it’s coming back to me, falling into my lap, not wanting to stop,
Coming over the wall just like at that giant dumpster in Soho, hanging in the air, but nothing’s ever gone and nothing ever is what it aught to be and a call for help is as constant as an African beat
Just give them some Cool water wells curving up to the street, virtual hamony, virtually possible, blending so well riding the still yet-existent time

Dumpster Madness too much more to say
Papers flying, more than mine, in from China Town, Harlem bound
Up and over the wall, solid graffiti can’t haul it away
Blending so well riding the then yet-existent time more than mine, Blending so well trying to catch the still yet-existent time
Like a freight train

Winter Melody

Snow upon a Winter's morning crystals appear on the glass
Safe within a Winter's mooring crystals appear from the past
Growing unfolding as silver light hangs from the trees
Deep within a snow drift mountain silently waiting for Spring

Faith it comes in leaping and dancing easy to see in a child
Gaining strength in each it dances sometimes so tender and mild
Growing unfolding as silver light hangs from the trees
Deep within a snow drift mountain silently waiting for Spring

Hope upon a Winter's morning giving much more than delight
Half of that I give back to you crystals appear to take flight
Growing unfolding as silver light hangs from the trees
Deep within a snow drift mountain silently waiting for Spring

I will be glad to call you to discuss a performance booking.
